hank you to all of the youth who helped with our Wilson’s Gift Card fundraiser this year.  Because of your dedication in taking a turn selling cards during coffee hour we were able to earn enough money to pay fees for two youth to attend this year’s mission conference.  There are still cards available so see Linda or the church office if you know of someone who would like to buy one.

Vacation Bible School was great!

There were 30 elementary aged prince and princesses who attended this year.  The costumes, games, music, crafts, and puppets were such fun.  Of course all of the snacks were great, especially the ice cream with all the toppings.  And everyone sure enjoyed the giant inflated castle on Friday.  As always the week went so fast.  Wonder what the theme will be next year?

to the older youth who assisted with Vacation Bible School this year.  Some of you were able to be with us every day while some could only come a day or two, but we sure appreciate whatever you were able to do.  As always the teens are so much help during the week.  The children always love you!

Over $100.00 was collected at Bible School

to go toward the New Wilmington Mission project which is providing school kits for children in Haiti.  During the week we saw pictures of the devastation from the earthquake that has made life there very difficult.  We saw destroyed schools and smashed school buses, but we also saw the faces of smiling children who are still excited about learning. We challenged the congregation to bring in items for the packets that will be put together in New Wilmington and then sent to Haiti.  Thank you to everyone who helped children in need.

Two Choices!

Each Sunday morning through the summer you may choose between two different worship services:

9:30               Traditional Worship in the sanctuary

11:00               Informal Worship in the gymnasium

Come to one – Come to both – But Come!

Our Summer Sunday School classes will continue through the first week of September ( the 5th ) .  Elementary students are dismissed from the sanctuary following the children’s moment. Jr. and Sr. High are invited to come to the youth center at 9:15.  Both groups dismiss at 10:30 as the first worship service is ending.

Rally Day is Coming

Most of you do not want to think about the end of summer and the beginning of school, but it is going to happen sooner than we can believe. On Sunday, September 12th we will celebrate Rally Day as we return to our regular Sunday School and youth activities.  Mark your calendar now and watch for upcoming information as to any special events.

What happens when we study?  We learn new things, right?  Our church family is going to be doing a study of our church to see what we can learn about who we are.  What ministries do we do well?  What is meaningful to us? After that we will prayerfully think about what it is that God would have us do and be in the future.  This is a very exciting time for our congregation, and under the leadership of a new group, our Appreciative Inquiry Team, we will put together a plan for the future.  It is an exciting time to be here at Second, and we thank Sarah Fenton for serving as our youth representative to this committee.  Keep your ears open for information to come soon.

Have you ever thought that you would like to read through the whole Bible but didn’t know where to start?  This fall you can be a part of a Bible study that will help you do that very thing!

The Bible in 90 Days: Cover to Cover in 12 Pages a DayKick-off Sermon Sunday, September 5th

and completed November 28th

Just 12 pages a day!  That’s all it takes to read the Bible in ninety days.  It’s easier than you thought!  Once you break it down into bite-sized pieces, what may have seemed to be a formidable challenge becomes do-able and enjoyable.  Use the special order “The Bible in 90 Days” large print Bible to get the most out of your experience or use your own version in conjunction with the 90 Days curriculum.  Either way, you’ll be fulfilling what for many Christians is a longstanding ambition:  reading through the entire Bible.

Ecclesiastes 3:1,11

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: He hath made every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
