25, 2010 9:30 am Worship PRELUDE When Morning Gilds the
Skies Settings by Hal Hopson Trumpet
Tune by Jeremiah Clarke WELCOME/greet
your neighborS ANNOUNCEMENTS (Please pass the fellowship pads
in the pews) FAREWELL TO THE Call to Worship The closest we may come is the seeding of our own
lawns. If we want to reap a lush green
lawn, We must be generous with seeding.
If we sparingly sow the seed, the lawn will be thin, Prone to weeds
and disease. We are lush lawn people, Who
understand that we reap what we sow. We
gather in church, to sow the spirit of God, To reap the same we sow and more,
For God’s spirit multiplies with the planting, And grows more rich, and full,
and beautiful, When we open our hearts, letting the love seeds go. We
are fertile, well-nourished soil, ready for the seed of life to be planted in
our lives, waiting for the unfolding of faith. We are strong young seedlings, As yet
thinly rooted, but reaching for the water of life, and also upward toward
your light of life, which is our desire.
We are maturing fields of faith, Spread richly over the plains and
hills, producing a yield of many buds ripening with hope, love and beauty. We are golden grain joyfully ripe for harvest With
seeds aplenty for the next spring’s sowing Knowing the sowing brings a good
harvest. Dear
God above, Dear God below, Dear God of soil, seed and harvest, Dear God in
Christ, We are your richly planted, ripening people in various stages of
faith. We pray that in this hour you
will water our souls, Brighten our minds, lengthen our roots, Stretch our
stems, And touch our hearts, That we might be strengthened With a generosity
to sow your seeds As needed. Amen.
Compassionate God, You are more
ready to hear than we are to speak. You
are more ready to forgive than we are to confess. You invite us to open our
hearts to you in prayer, but we close ourselves to you and follow other
paths. Again and again you draw near, but
we keep turning away. Our sinfulness
has led to our undoing. Lord, teach us
to pray. Lead us to seek you. In your light may we see our darkness. In your
truth may we know our lies. As we admit our sins, help us discover your
grace and receive your mercy, so that we may live the abundant life you have
prepared for us in Jesus Christ.

POSTLUDE
Please
welcome Matt Scavo as our guest organist and thanks
to Hank Speaks for providing the special music during the worship service.
Thank you for your
thoughtfulness and caring during this difficult time of illness that slowed
me down in a hurry! I am feeling some
better. It means so much to know that
my church family is keeping me and my family in prayer. I have enjoyed the bright spot in my day of
a card, phone call or visit. It is so
comforting to know you are there for me! Sincerely, Norma Bartlett To all you faithful
Cents-Ability supporters, next Sunday is collection Sunday. Remember,
it may start with just one person, but together we really are making a
difference, remembering that Jesus said, "You feed them."

July 25, 2010 - 11:00 am
"By order of Session,
there will be a called congregational meeting Sunday, July 25, 2010
immediately following the 9:30 am worship service.” The purpose of the meeting is to vote on a
resolution to transfer ownership of the Spencer House from Second
Presbyterian Church to Sheryl L. Kraner, ESQ, Youth
and Family Behavioral Health Campus. The 11 o’clock service will be
meeting in the gymnasium for “Church Plugged.” The title
suggests intriguing possibilities, doesn’t it? We’ll be plugged in
electronically, as well as exploring new ways to plug into the gospel and
establish a connection with Jesus and each other. Each week will be an
experiment in new ways to worship, and participation and feedback will be a
key element. Please join us! |
